Have you ever gone through a bewildering storm and wondered, God, where are you?
I was so tired of trying to be strong. Trying to cope. Hoping I could somehow fix myself. I spent years chasing after God and feeling like He was nowhere to be found when I needed Him most.
I studied. I prayed. I sought God with all my heart. If you read me a scripture, I could tell you where to find it. Chapter and verse. I had the information. But what I longed for was transformation.
When my son was three years old, as I tucked him into bed one evening, he told me that he was scared and wanted me to stay with him. I told him he had no reason to be afraid. God’s angels were with him, watching over him as he slept. “But how do I know the angels are here if I can’t see them, Mum?” he asked.
Well, I was stumped. How do you explain this deep theological question to a three-year-old?
As I stood there, scrolling through mental folders, desperately looking for an answer, he suddenly looked up at me and announced: “Oh, I know! You can also see with your heart!”
His wisdom took my breath away for a second.
This is what had been missing in my quest for God. The ability to see with the eyes of my heart. I was only looking at my natural circumstances. All the while, there was an unseen enemy who had stolen my identity and kept me tangled up in lies. Lies that were keeping me from living in the freedom and abundance that was my God-given inheritance.
Dear friend, are you allowing an unseen enemy to steal your identity and inheritance? It’s time to start seeing with the eyes of your heart.
I pray this prayer from Ephesians 1:18 (TLB) over myself every day. And I am praying it over your heart, too:
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can see something of the future he has called you to share. I want you to realize that God has been made rich because we who are Christ’s have been given to him!
Here’s something practical you can do to start seeing with the eyes of your heart:
Pray this prayer over your heart every day. Then believe that you can see with your heart. Quiet your mind. Ask the Father to show you how He feels about you. What do you see in your imagination? Write it down and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding as you unpack the image you have seen. Remember to respond to what the Father shows you.
You were created to see His heart and hear His voice.
